我清楚地知道自己又一次“跨界”了，跨到了一个我并不擅长的教育技术研究领域或与数据科学相关的研究领域，因为我自己还远未成为如迈尔-舍恩伯格教授所说的“数据脱盲者”（data literate）。但作为一名国际教育研究者，我提醒自己要时刻了解教育改革和发展的国际前沿态势，包括影响教育领域的外部因素如社会经济发展和信息通信技术等。

2008年，我因参与进行《国家中长期教育改革和发展规划纲要》前期研究（担任“国际教育发展研究”子课题组组长）之需，主持翻译了由经济合作与发展组织（OECD）教育研究与创新中心于2008年出版的《大趋势形塑教育》（Trends Shaping Education）一书（华东师范大学出版社，2009年），旨在促使教育领域的政策制定者、管理者和实践者更多地思考该书所涉及的26个发展趋势及其对教育发展构成的影响。该书第六章涉及数字革命、万维网的广泛使用和走向Web2.0三种趋势，并提出它们分别对教育意味着什么的问题。这是我对信息通讯技术影响教育的最初的特别感受。

2013年，我先后发表了《大数据时代思维方式对教育的启示》（《教育发展研究》2013年第21期，与张燕南合作）和《探索一个新的学习前沿：关于高中阶段设置MOOCs课程的战略思考》（《全球教育展望》2013年第11期，与沈祖芸合作）两篇论文。

今年4月，当我得知迈尔-舍恩伯格教授于3月出版了《与大数据同行》的电子书（英文版）时，即与华东师范大学出版社龚海燕副社长联系，希望出版社能引进出版。此后几经曲折，终于在10月初获得了作者首肯，我和张燕南便立即着手翻译此书（我此前已经根据张燕南以往的学习经历而建议她以“如何消除（或缩小）教育数字鸿沟”为主题撰写其博士论文）。

值此书行将出版之际，我要首先感谢迈尔-舍恩伯格教授，感谢他最终对于出版的首肯，以及他对我们访谈的欣然接受——这次访谈的内容构成了本书第6辑的主要部分。作为此书出版的一个插曲，迈尔-舍恩伯格教授受邀参观访问了华东师范大学出版社，并在华东师范大学作了一场充满激情和睿智、展望学习与教育之未来的有关大数据的讲演。

我要感谢为本书撰写推荐序的美国纽约大学、上海纽约大学的克莱·舍基教授和上海师范大学的黎加厚教授。尽管克莱·舍基教授近期的教学和写作任务十分繁忙，但对我请他为本书作推荐序的请求慷慨应允。黎加厚教授为国内基础教育界最为知名的教育技术、信息技术领军人物之一，与我虽相识多年却见面甚少，但他一收到我的邀约便在最短的时间内发来了非常专业的推荐序。
